So, I figured a topic about possible up-and-coming DG arenas would be kinda cool. You can post ideas you have for arenas, threads at DG.com that you've seen where players have designed custom ideas for new arenas, etc.. Heck, you can even talk about which current arenas ya like and which ones ya kinda dislike. Anything to do with arenas can go in here!
I'll start it off with this thread I saw at DG.com. A guy named TheScottishAlien designed a rough idea for a 1v1 arena called "Pit". I'm not sure I'd personally like playing on a 1v1 arena, but I suppose it would be pretty cool if it was against a fellow ToE guy. Would be a competitive game, that's for sure. I personally like the moving picture of the arena and the amount of detail he put into his idea. I thought that was pretty cool, and I wouldn't mind learning how to do that myself, but I have a feeling it would be kinda tough. Looks cool though. _________________ Known as Prospero of Caliban in Evony

I'd love a mufti leveled arena. Something with like a flight of stairs and a second level...nothing obscuring, but something that opens up the map a little.
Even something a little less arena like....maybe a series of open hallways and corridors...something more akin to a level in Quake, what with rooms and such. _________________ BMF

Kinda puts me in the mood for Diablo 3
A multilevel arena or something that shows a little bit of divergence from the rest of the arenas they have right now, which are pretty much all close to being the same, except for Prison, would be pretty cool. Camera angling would be tough, but if the staircase went from the edge of one part of the arena in a diagonal direction, it would work out pretty well. Rooms, caverns, hallways, stairwells, bridges, etc..would all be great to see on at least one or two maps. Maybe a battle from within a giant castle?
Cool ideas mate....hopefully we can see a few of them in some future update/expansion. That would definitely open-up some new types of gameplay. _________________ Known as Prospero of Caliban in Evony

LOL...i was watching West Wing actually...i came back not long after your last message...you should have just rung me, i would heard it.
I played a game....Reg and i had a Nightmare AI partner in TB and we went against Oak and Erebus on Zikurat in a conquest.
Geez....the AI are a lot better........and i mean alot better...took me ages to win and i didn't even hit level 15...
High Towers
Max strength grunts
Slow Spawn
Slow Flag time.
Hard as shit to win...... _________________ BMF

Damn....you ain't kidding. I can't believe you pulled it off with grunts at Max. Strength. We couldn't even do that together against the AI's, before their strength was increased by that last update. Must've been a crazy game.
I had a game yesterday where I was actually playing as Reg., and I had a Nightmare AI Erebus as an ally, against a Nightmare AI Rook and a Nightmare AI Oak on Crucible. The other team had broken through the first line of defense, and they were working on the second, and I thought we were pretty screwed. But for some reason, they left the artifact shop flag in our control, so I teleported over and capped it, along with another flag, and proceeded to use my level 15 strength and range to knock down their first line of defense, along with some creep waves. Tough shit, and they were only purchasing tower and defense upgrades - no creeps, except for priests. So my team beat them to Giants, and we made one of the coolest pushes I've seen in awhile. The game - and keep in mind that this is on a 2v2 arena - took an hour and 25 minutes. And I think I enjoyed every minute of it. _________________ Known as Prospero of Caliban in Evony

I'm starting to warm up to crucible alot more...its a very strategic map that if you get it wrong, it can go very badly..takes some finesse to get it right. _________________ BMF

Yeah, it can be a really challenging arena, especially with the new, powered-up version of the AI. Makes for a seriously tough match. I think I might have to play it again today...gotta try out this new Foul Grasp build I was using last night...made a killing in our first game.
Still don't think I'm gonna warm-up to Prison anytime soon though. That arena is just so....boring....over-used....strategically unpleasant....I mean really, what strategy is there if ya just walk around over an open plain and beat the crap out of your opponent, or get the crap beaten out of you? There's almost no flags to fight for, and the bases are so small and easy to break through if you're at a high level....pretty much pointless to play, IMO. _________________ Known as Prospero of Caliban in Evony

I was looking through the Demigod Ideas subsection of the forums at DG.com, and I found another thread from TheScottishAlien, where he has come-up with another idea for a map. He's the same guy who designed the idea for the map "Pit", which I talked about at the top of this thread.
The name of this map is "Castle Top", and it's another 1v1 that somewhat resembles Prison, which I don't think any of us are fans of. However, even if it does resemble some aspects of Prison, there are some good ideas hidden in that thread which he didn't even touch on. I like the idea of having different parts of buildings to fight through, and if his Castle Top idea could be broadened, we could have several levels of castle to fight through. He also has some side-paths on his map, so it doesn't make it exactly like Prison, but I think this would turn into an all-out killing bash, where you would see all the Demigods fighting in the center against wave after wave of creeps, gaining experience at very rapid rates, making it difficult to defeat a persistant Nightmare AI opponent if you couldn't kill them fast enough.
Still, this guy has some great ideas and I am looking forward to seeing more map ideas from him.
Edit: I forgot to mention it is never a bad thing to have a really tough game against an AI opponent. The tougher the better, IMO. _________________ Known as Prospero of Caliban in Evony

The new version sucks balls. Im at my parents this weekend and installed DG with the 1.1 and it is horrible...i can't even play online.
When i get home i will not be updating my DG till they fix their issues........
Sorry for the digress....
I think i saw that one and it looks ok, even more so with some Sd supported modding that will be coming.
I think we will see that new maps will be the first mod that hits the street... _________________ BMF

Well, I'm really hoping this new v1.2 patch for Demigod ends-up bringing some new maps to the table, whether they be official or modded. Having just 8 maps gets to be a bit...monotonous...at times.
I'm also really starting to warm-up to Prison nowadays...don't get me wrong, I still prefer The Brothers and Mandala over it, but it seems all my top builds work best on Prison at the moment.
I'm actually itching to get my builds tried and tested a bit more on Crucible to be honest. I don't think any of us have played that map too much recently. And hey...if our builds work well on a 3v3 map like Prison, it shouldn't be too much different on a 2v2 map like Crucible, which is still very playable at 3v3. _________________ Known as Prospero of Caliban in Evony

Well, another fantastic map-idea has been released by TheScottishAlien, who is well-known for coming-up with over a dozen different map-ideas for Demigod. This most recent one is entitled "Waterfall". Here's the thread at DG.com: Link.
Now, just by looking at some of the pictures that he's placed in the thread, I can already tell that once Stardock releases their first "Modding Kit" in one of the v1.2 update's pieces, this map is going to be great to play on. Visually, it looks awesome, and just looking at the diagrams provided, I can tell that there will be quite a bit of strategizing involved, which IMO, is very cool. I also like the idea of the "ripple-effect" that TheScottishAlien described in his thread, where the Waterfall will be cascading across the exact middle of the map, and the part that is "behind" the Waterfall will have the realistic rippling-effect that you see with real waterfalls.
It sounds tricky to implement, but if anyone can do it, this guy probably can. I'm definitely looking forward to playing on a few of his maps, once he's had a chance to design them using Stardock's Modding Kit. _________________ Known as Prospero of Caliban in Evony
